Scales Pattern Bowl Slump Mold for Pottery

Create textured ceramic bowls without a pottery wheel using this 3D printed plastic slump mold with a seamless scales relief pattern. Designed for clay slab building, this mold helps beginners, hobby potters, ceramic students, and studio makers form beautiful handmade bowls with a repeating fish scale, mermaid scale, or scallop-inspired surface.

The raised scales pattern transfers to the outside of the clay bowl, creating a decorative relief texture that works beautifully with glazes, underglazes, oxides, slips, washes, and layered ceramic surface effects. It is ideal for making soup bowls, cereal bowls, rice bowls, decorative bowls, small serving bowls, handmade gifts, craft market pottery, and beginner-friendly ceramic projects.

This mold is designed for slab pottery and does not require a wheel. Simply place a rolled clay slab inside the mold, gently press it into the form, allow the clay to firm up, then remove and finish the piece using your usual pottery process.

Each mold is an original in-house design by DIY Project Depot and is 3D printed in France from plant-based bioplastic. It is lightweight, durable, easy to clean, and more resistant to chipping than plaster molds. The mold is available in many sizes, and custom dimensions are available on request at no extra design cost.

Please choose your mold size before clay shrinkage. Most clays shrink around 10–12% during drying and firing, so the final ceramic bowl will usually be smaller than the mold size.

How to Use

Roll out a clay slab, usually around 4–6 mm thick, and place it gently inside the mold. Press the clay into the bowl shape so it follows the scales pattern and captures the relief texture. Let the clay firm up until it can hold its form, then remove it from the mold.

After demolding, refine the rim and base, dry the piece slowly, then bisque fire, glaze, and fire according to your clay and glaze instructions.

Care Instructions

Clean gently with water and a soft sponge or brush. Do not place the mold in a kiln, dishwasher, oven, or near high heat. Let it dry fully before storage.
