Create handmade star-shaped ceramic plates and dishes with this 3D printed pottery hump mold by DIY Project Depot. Designed for clay slab building, this star plate mold helps you shape clean, playful, and eye-catching ceramic pieces without using a pottery wheel.

This is a hump mold / drape mold, meaning the clay slab is placed over the outside of the form. The raised star shape guides the clay into a consistent five-point plate form with softly curved sides, making it ideal for handmade serving plates, decorative dishes, jewelry trays, holiday pottery, Christmas plates, candle dishes, children’s pottery projects, and craft market ceramics.

No expensive equipment is needed. Simply roll out a clay slab, drape it over the mold, smooth the clay by hand, let it firm up, then remove and finish the piece using your usual ceramic process.

Each mold is an original in-house design by DIY Project Depot and is 3D printed in France from plant-based bioplastic. It is lightweight, durable, easy to handle, and suitable for beginners, pottery students, home ceramic makers, craft workshops, and professional ceramic studios.

Multiple sizes are available, and custom sizes can be made on request up to 40 cm / 15.7 inches.

How to Use

Roll out a clay slab to your preferred thickness, usually around 4–6 mm. Place the slab over the star-shaped hump mold and gently smooth the clay so it follows the points, curves, and raised plate profile. Let the clay firm up until it can hold its shape, then carefully remove it from the mold.

After demolding, refine the rim and surface, dry slowly, bisque fire, glaze, and fire according to your usual ceramic process.

Depending on your clay body and workflow, you can demold dry, use a light release agent, or place stretch film between the clay and the mold.

Please account for clay shrinkage. Most clays shrink around 10–12% during drying and firing, so the final fired ceramic piece will usually be smaller than the mold size.
